George Floyd


George Floyd is an African American from Minneapolis who was allegedly suffocated to death by a white police officer identified as Derek Chauvin on 25 May 2020.  The other arresting officers were Tou Thao, Thomas K. Lane and Alexander KuengDerek Chauvin can be seen kneeling on his neck as he struggles to breathe. A video of the incident with George Floyd pinned down begging to breathe was released online. Floyd can be heard saying,  “Please, I can’t breathe. I can’t move,” Floyd says. “My stomach hurts, my neck hurts. Everything hurts.”

As of 01 June 2020 all the officers were fired but only Derek Chauvin was arrested and charged with third degree murder.

On 03 June 2020 Derek Chauvin's charge was upgraded to second degree murder.

 Tou Thao, Alexander Kueng and Thomas K. Lane were also charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Both charges are regarded as “unintentional” felonies.

George Floyd can be heard begging to Derek Chauvin in a video recorded that he was no longer able to breathe.

“Please, I can’t breathe. I can’t move. My stomach hurts, my neck hurts. Everything hurts.”

Memorial Services

A memorial service will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on 04 June 2020 at the North Central University in Minneapolis, according to a release from the Rev. Al Sharpton's civil rights organization, the National Action Network.  Al Sharpton will deliver a eulogy and George Floyd's family members will attend.

Another memorial service will be held on 06 June 2020 at t the Cape Fear Conference B Headquarters from 1 to 3 p.m. in Raeford, North Carolina, where Floyd was born. Bridgette Floyd lives in Hoke County.

Funeral Service

George Floyd's funeral service will be held on 09 June 2020 at 11 am at Fort Bend Memorial Planning Center in Houston, Texas where he grew up. Floyd Mayweather is reportedly paying for the funeral and Floyd family attorney Benjamin Crump Former Vice President Joe Biden will attend the funeral.

Career

George Floyd was a security guard for a nightclub called El Nuevo Rodeo but had been laid off during coronavirus. Derek Chauvin also once worked part time at the same club but it is not clear if they worked together or knew each other.

Music

George Floyd was also a rapper using the name Big Floyd and worked with the famed late DJ Screw.

Other big name rappers have not made any songs  about George Floyd but have spoken out against his death. 50 Cent and T.I are some of rappers who have spoken out.

Wife and Children

George Floyd is survived by his girlfriend Courtenay Ross and four children that included three daughters and a son. The daughters included 6 year old Gianna Floyd and Connie Mason. His son is named Quincy Mason Floyd and was alongside with his sister Connie Mason estranged from their father for 15 years. Quincy and Connie didn't even recognize their father on the news.

Family

George Floyd had three siblings. The names of his siblings are Bridgett, Terrence and Philonise Floyd. His brother Philonise Floyd started a fundraising campaign for George's children and the family that has raised over $USD8.6 million as of 01 June 2020. His sister Bridgett also started a fundraising campaign that raised over $USD254 000.
