Minions are characters from Minions: The Rise of Gru, a 2022 American computer-animated comedy film produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures. The characters were voiced by Pierre Coffin.
Minions are fictional yellow creatures that are characterized by their childlike behavior and unique language, which is largely unintelligible. Minions mostly speak incomprehensible (to the audience, but understandable to the human characters in the films) gibberish, which is partly derived from other languages, including French, English, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Spanish, and German. Although seemingly nonsensical, the English-sounding dialogue is dubbed differently for every country, in order to make the sounds somewhat recognizable. They have common English-language names, such as Dave (one of the first known minions in the franchise), Kevin, Stuart, Bob (the lead trio in Minions), and Mel (the leader of the Minions in Despicable Me 3). While shown as somewhat absent-minded and having very mischievous streaks, they also possess exceptional engineering abilities, being able to design and construct spaceships and playthings for Gru's adopted daughters, particularly the youngest, Agnes. Minions are biologically wired to seek out and serve the most terrible of villains; when they have no "boss" to serve, they become depressed and listless. They are also shown to have a degree of invulnerability, as Kevin, Stuart and Bob are able to survive a European torture chamber without any injuries, even playing with the torture devices.
Set after the events of the first film in the 1970s, a 12-year-old Gru is growing up in the suburbs. A fanboy of a team of supervillains known as the Vicious 6, Gru hatches a plan to become evil enough to join them. When the Vicious 6 oust their leader, legendary fighter Wild Knuckles, Gru interviews to become their newest member.
It does not go well, and things only get worse after Gru steals a precious stone from them with the help of Kevin, Stuart, Bob, Otto, and the other Minions and suddenly finds himself the mortal enemy of the apex of evil. On the run, Gru will turn to an unlikely source for guidance, Wild Knuckles himself, and discover that even bad guys need a little help from their friends.
